A Brief Introduction
My name is Carol Poole+ and I am passionate about creating Membership Sites – not only am I a member of a couple of membership sites, I also have my own membership site.
My Membership Site History
First of all, let me introduce myself. I used to work in a Corporate environment as a Brand Manager for a major food company in Australia. The company I worked for was trying to find ways to develop their recipe membership club. With a database of 25,000 members they wanted to fnd a way to make money from the site. They had the noble aim of selling advertising space on the site.
The trouble with this approach was that the potential for making money from advertising revenue was small and the site did not attract any advertisers. I had a growing interest in online technologies and knew there was a far better way. A membership site with interactive videos, cooking masterclasses and tips and hints could have brought in new members and provided the company I worked for with a strong recurring income stream.
However, this was a struggle for a company who was still grappling with the idea of whether to have a Facebook fan page or not. Working in the Digital Space was also deemed not a major part of my role as a Brand Manager. So I decided to pull the pin on my day job, use the skills gained from my day job and start my own business (with my husband Ray).
Why Membership Sites?
Membership sites were already an area of interest to me. But it really all started when I began teaching other people how to set up their membership site themselves. In the process I started building my own! I liked the challenge of creating a membership site as well as all strategic thinking that goes behind setting up a site, creating a product, keeping people engaged and how to segment my audience. I also wanted to help people by providing a step by step blueprint to help them develop an Online Membership business.
